After 8 hours of heating, picking, cutting, grinding,twisting, prying, banging, crying, and bleeding the damaged collar is off. I have a new respect for 100 year old cast iron pipe technology. The siplest ring cast into the colar of the pipe accepts the molton lead to form a bond that will support hundreds of pounds of iron pip below. If the rest of wall of the pipe below didnt rust out the life expectancy of this instalation would be indefinate.

Waste pipe damage

I broke through the living room wall to see what was causing the dampness on the drywall. On the side of the cast iron pipe was a three foot long cut that letting any water splash out any time the bathroom was used. I cut out the damaged part and now need to figure out how to remove the top 6 inches of the old pipe where the old pipe's collar .
